Course Description
Our Erasmus+ CLIL course for secondary teachers helps subject and language educators combine curriculum learning with purposeful language development across lower and upper secondary education.
The course supports secondary school staff in designing CLIL lessons and units for subjects such as science, mathematics, history, geography, arts, physical education, technology, and social sciences.
Participants will explore how to plan content objectives and language objectives, identify the academic language and subject-specific literacy learners need, scaffold complex texts and explanations, and create opportunities for discussion, inquiry, problem solving, and extended student production.
The course empowers teachers to use questioning, modelling, graphic organisers, collaborative tasks, formative assessment, and responsible digital tools. These strategies help adolescents engage with demanding content, communicate disciplinary ideas, and become more independent learners.
By the end of this CLIL course for secondary teachers, participants will have practical resources and a curriculum-based CLIL unit that integrates subject knowledge, academic language, higher-order thinking, interaction, and assessment.
This Erasmus+ training course is suitable for lower- and upper-secondary subject CLIL teachers, language teachers, CLIL coordinators, and bilingual school education staff. The course will be adapted to the subjects, learner ages, and school systems represented by participants.
Course Content

Core CLIL principles for adolescent learners and lower and upper secondary curricula

Planning content objectives, language objectives, disciplinary literacy, cognition, communication, and culture

Scaffolding academic vocabulary, complex texts, explanations, discussion, writing, and subject-specific genres

Designing inquiry, problem-solving, project-based, collaborative, and digitally supported CLIL activities

Assessing content and language through formative checks, rubrics, feedback, self-assessment, and peer assessment
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

Understand how CLIL methodology applies to adolescent learners and secondary school subjects

Plan curriculum-based lessons and units with aligned content, language, cognition, communication, and assessment

Identify and teach the academic language and disciplinary literacy required by a subject task

Assessment and Certificates
Assessment of performance will be through delegate-completed portfolio of work. The final course certification for successful completion is a college-issued “Course Certificate of Completion”, for each module studied. In addition, where applicable, delegates will receive relevant EuroPass certificates.
